Anagra Falls!

We have just returned from Niagara Falls. A few observations: I'm so glad we're not doing a sight-seeing tour of the country, because two small children would make it horrible beyond the telling. We could get through this round of complaining and whining and general high maintenance-ness because we knew we wouldn't have to deal with it again (exactly). Also, we learned a lot about Niagara Falls. It's not, in fact, just one big waterfall. It's divided generally into two sides: the American side (Bridalveil and some other name falls) and the Canadian side (Horseshoe falls). You can see both from Goat Island (US territory), which has generally been left undeveloped, though there are signs of a hotel going in on the island itself, which is too bad. And while the Canadian falls are more impressive, the Canadians seem to have done just as good a job commercializing the area as the Americans have. So, it's not as if Canada had some tremendous self-restraint in keeping their side natural.

Also, while the motel we're staying in is pretty run-down (though our room itself is just fine), and it's surrounded by a bunch of other motels of at best this level of maintenance, there is a free shuttle that runs from right out in front of the motel to the falls. Yeah for city planning! Alice and Beatrice (not to mention Molitor and I) loved the bus.

So, check! Niagara Falls. Onwards!
