Chapparal Family Campground, Salem OH

Slugs in the shower stalls. That pretty much sums up this campground. It is serviceable and very convenient to the town of Salem, which we wanted to explore. But it might be the skuzziest campground I've ever been in. It clearly is primarily for RVs and trailers, not tent campers. And many of the RVs look pretty run down, even though some are fantastic. The dumpsters haven't been emptied since, well, too long clearly. The bathrooms have either broken or no screen doors so the bathrooms are full of little bugs. A moth took a shower with me on my arm today! How sociable... Thankfully most of this is just superficially problematic. We've camped enough to be okay with bugs and dirt; so "dirty" isn't really an issue. This is just a damn trash heap, complete with an area for what are clearly old discarded RVs (which, let me tell you, look creepy when all piled up together and abandoned). The biggest problem has been the frequent and sometimes strong rain, though we have learned to prepare the tent for that wow well. And yeah for camping with lots of plastic ziplocs and Rubbermaid storage containers!
